    Tuesdays  9.15 -10.15am

Do you need more exercise but cannot face it on your own?  Why not join the friendly group which meets every Tuesday at 9.15am-10.15am at the Community
Centre in Fairford.  Our trainer takes us through a routine of simple stretch & movement exercises which are followed by a short session of floor exercises.  Nothing excessive & you are the judge of the level to which you go.  We are amateurs.  It's fun.  Potential Olympic medallists need not apply!

Golf

  • Group Leader:
    John Yorke
    01367 - 253596
  • Meetings:
    As Arranged

In April 2010 the Golf Section came into being. It was formed to give golfers from absolute beginners to those with a recognised handicap to join together once a month at a different course in the area to enjoy 18 holes of golf with associated hospitality.

We are looking for further members in order to arrange competitions and award prizes.

If there are any budding golfers, with little or no experience, and they would care to contact me I will be pleased to arrange lessons with a PGA professional and visits to a driving range for practice.

Do join us. Contact John Yorke on 01367 253596 or 077727 47805 or text yorkejohn@live.co.uk

Petanque (Boules)

  • Group Leader:
    Phil Trickett
  • Telephone:
    01285 - 712421
  • Meetings:
Every Wednesday 10.00 am - noon

We meet every Wednesday morning at the car park of St. Thomas's RC Church in Horcott Road, Fairford, except for the winter months.   The game is played within the guidelines of the French game of Petanque and is pretty low on energy demand.  Members usually bring their own set of boules but spare sets can be rustled up.

As well as enjoying the game there is also a good social spirit and players do not have to make a weekly commitment.  Anyone who has never played the game is welcome to join.

Short Tennis

  • Group Leader:
    Margaret Trickett
  • Telephone:
    01285 - 712421
  • Meetings:
    Mondays between 3.30and 5.30 pm

We meet every Monday afternoon in the Palmer Hall in Fairford. The game is played on a Badminton court using a low net and a spongy ball.. The amount of energy needed is comparable to that needed for social tennis in the local courts except that there isn't as far to travel to retrieve missed balls!  We play doubles and singles, depending on the number of members that turn up as there is only one court - there is not a need for a weekly commitment and participants need not attend for the whole period.

Straddlers Walking Group

  • Group Leader:
    John Burrows
  • Telephone:
    01367 - 253056
  • Meetings:
3rd Thursday, 9-30 am. Fairford Car Park

The "Straddlers" in Fairford & District U3A  aim to do distances of 8-10 miles in a day.  Sandwiches are taken as a pub lunch, attractive as it sounds, can be a bit wearisome when you still have 4 or more miles to go.

Striders Walking Group

  • Group Leader:
    Phil Trickett
  • Telephone:
    01285 - 712421
  • Meetings:
    4Tuesday, 9.00 - 9.30am. Fairford Car Park

The Striders were formed to meet requests from members to walk a distance between the 'Straddlers' and 'Walking with a Pub Lunch' and so we walk about 6 miles and finish with a pub lunch.  The pace is a little faster than the 4-5 mile walk because we need to get to the pub for lunchtime!

  • Telephone:
    01285 - 712692

Walking with a Pub Lunch

This popular group meets monthly on the second Wednesday  (except August) at a designated Pub. We meet at the Fairford Car Park or at the Pub for a

10-00 a.m. start

Each walk is circular, about 4 to 5 miles long, returning to the Pub around 12-30 p.m. Walking is at a gentle pace, though we can't avoid some stiles and mud

The first walk was in March 1995, meeting at the Swan in Southrop with a circuit in the River Leach valley. We celebrated our fiftieth walk by returning to the Swan for a variation of the first walk, and an excellent lunch followed by a skittles match

We celebrated the hundreth walk in October 2000 with an good lunch at the Crown in Cerney Wick. The group has savoured the food at over sixty different pubs and are still finding more. Some people just come for the lunch!. We have a special Christmas event which attracts around forty members making it one of the highlights of the year.
